9 AR men hurt in another twin explosions

Barely 24 hours after the twin blasts at the historic Imphal pologround that left two jawans injured, at least nine Assam Rifles personnel were wounded in another double explosions Tuesday, this time at Assam Rifles transit camp located near commando complex, here.

Sources informed that two grenades exploded almost simultaneously at about 5.10pm Tuesday inside the Assam Rifles transit camp located near Minuthong bridge.

The injured personnel have been identified as havildar Amar Sargari of 33 AR and riflemen Raj Kishore (8 AR), Pradip Sharma (8 AR), S Pradhan (8 AR), Deependra Subardi (8 AR), Rajesh Kumar (2 AR), Umesh Kumar (42 AR), H Konyak (8 AR) and Sanju Lamba (25 AR). All of them suffered minor splinter injuries and are currently undergoing treatment at Shija Hospital, Langol.

Sources further informed that two hand grenades suspected to be hurled from the road near the commando complex exploded at the western corner of the transit camp almost simultaneously at about 5.10pm. The first bomb exploded around 50 feet from the compound wall of the transit camp while the second one exploded around 100 feet from the wall.

Both the spots where the grenades exploded are informed to be bathing points for the personnel. Levers for both the grenades were found inside the transit camp barely six feet from the western wall of the complex.

Top police officers including DGP LM Khaute, IGP Clay Khongsai and senior SP (Imphal West) Themting Ngasangva inspected the blast sites.

Meanwhile, Imphal police station has registered a case and started investigation.

Mention may be made that two AR personnel were injured in a twin blasts at the historic Imphal pologround at about 5.30pm Monday.

Two AR soldiers had suffered injuries when two grenades exploded at the historic Imphal pologround, locally known as Mapal Kangjeibung Monday evening.

Notably, Mapal Kangjeibung was the venue for the 15th DGAR sentinel cup equestrian championship and 9th state equestrian championship jointly organised by Manipur Equestrian Association and 6 Assam Rifles of 9 sector Assam IGAR (South) under the aegis of IGAR(South).
