11 vehicles recovered during anti-drug drive, no arrest

A combined team of Thoubal police, Narcotics & Affairs of Border (NAB) and Kakching police conducted a massive anti-drug drive in Lilong area Saturday as part of chief minister N Biren’s resolve to bring a drug-free society.
The drive was conducted from 4.30am till 9.30am at Lilong Haoreibi Awang Leikai, Lilong Hangamthabi and Lilong Yangbi Leikai under Lilong police station.
During the drive, the combined team recovered 77 cough syrup bottles containing codeine, 2 gm Heroin, one double barrel gun with four packets of ammunition and 11 vehicles.
There is, however, no report of any arrest in connection with the drive.
Engine numbers of all the recovered vehicles which include three four-wheelers and eight two-wheelers were found to be modified and suspected to be stolen vehicles.
Speaking to media persons, SP (NAB) W Basu informed that the drive was conducted as part of ongoing destruction of mass opium cultivation as per chief minister N Biren’s resolve to make the state free from contraband drugs. Members of All Lilong Anti Drug Drive Association (ALADA) also extended help to the combined team during Saturday’s drive, he said, adding that two cases will be registered at Lilong police in connection with the drive. He also said that similar drive will also be conducted in other districts in the coming days.
