NSF criticises Centre over poll schedule announcement

Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has questioned the sincerity of Centre, saying that the latter’s announcement of election schedule for Nagaland against the wish of Naga people is a big disappointment.

Speaking to media Friday, NSF leaders expressed their resentment saying “the Naga civil society organisations have been requesting the Centre to settle the Naga political issue and defer the Nagaland state assembly election. But the Centre did not pay heed to the people’s voice by announcing the election schedule”.

The NSF leaders also said that declaring to hold the state assembly election while ignoring the sentiment of Naga people shows the attitude of the Centre towards the Naga political issue.

“We are expecting solution to the Naga political issue any day but the Centre went ahead to announce the election date,” rued one of the NSF leaders.

Meanwhile, NSF said that it will go ahead with the rally planned for January 23 at Naga Solidarity Park in Kohima. The rally will begin from 10:30 am. The rally was planned several days ago to demand the settlement of the Naga political issue, and not election.

Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has been on poster campaign in Nagaland on “No Solution, No Election” in the past few days. The NSF leaders also informed that they will announce their next course of action soon.

Meanwhile, Naga Hoho, Nagaland Tribes Council (NTC) and other civil society organisations are likely announce their respective positions soon on the announcement of poll date by the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursday. Reports said that many Naga organisations are consulting the public on the matter since Thursday evening.
