X-Polo Club upstaged MPSC-B to emerge champions of the 34th State Level Polo Tournament on Sunday. Tentha Polo Club won the U16 junior boys’ event.
X-Polo started off with a first-chukker 2-1 advantage. P Ojit found the opener and L Atangba made it 2-0 before Abungkhuman reduced the deficit for MPSC-B.
Both teams went into a lull in the next period and the police team fought their way back into contention in the third chukker when M Jawan drew level just before the end of the chukker.
In the decider, MPSC managed to overturn the scores through Jawan’s and led the chukker briefly before the X-Polo riders to recover following Th Jacob’s effort and then Atangba reacted swiftly to a chance in the dying seconds and smashed home the title-clincher to the delight of X-Polo’s supporters.
In the junior boys’ final, Tentha Polo Club scored six goals to get the better of Samadon Ayangba-A in their summit clash earlier.
A treble from Naoba, a double from M Kuber and a single from Bishorjit propelled Tentha to a comfortable 6-3 triumph over the opposition.
