Deploy Highway Protection Force for drivers’ safety: M Tombi
STAFF REPORTER IMPHAL, 14th Jan:
The government must deploy Highway Protection Force along the two National highways of the state which are considered as lifelines of Manipur, thereby ensuring safety of drivers who are braving everything to bring in daily-essential items into the state, Shiv Sena Manipur State Unit president M Tombi has stated.
Speaking to media persons at the party's office in Babupara here Sunday, M Tombi ,while paying homage to the fallen drivers on the occasion of Drivers' day, said that the party has been demanding deployment of Highway Protection Force along the national highways for a long time.
Stressing that drivers are always risking their lives in the line of duty of bringing in daily-essential goods into the state, Tombi said that both the central and state BJP governments must try their level best to ensure their safety.
He went on to say that it would be wrong on the part of the government to feign ignorance regarding collection of illegal taxes on the highways. Drivers are working hard day and night to serve the people and yet many of them end up being brutally murdered for not paying taxes or for petty reasons, he lamented.
Tombi further said that the government must earnestly consider deployment of the Highway Protection Force just like it is serious about the framework agreement signed between the Government of India and NSCN (IM).
He further appealed to the government to transform the neglected MSRTC in Dimapur as a safe haven for drivers.
