3 women among 22 netted in anti-drug drive

Amidst the gaiety and revelry for the new year, police apprehended 22 people, including three women in separate drug busts.

In its ongoing drive to make Imphal East District drug-free, Imphal East police apprehended a person along with illegal drugs while patrolling at Lamlong Keithel (bazar) at about 6.30 pm on Monday. The arrestee identified as Wilson Keishing (47), son of late Yateo Keishing of Lakoiching Silent village, Senapati district, was found in possession of 350 gm of Heroin estimated to be worth around Rs 42 lakh.

Speaking at a press meet held at the conference hall of SP office, Imphal East district, SP Kabib K informed that under the supervision of Imphal East District Additional SP Wungpam Kasar, DSP (CAR) Roni Mayengbam and Narcotics Cell OC Inspector Kh Devkumar Singh, a team led by SI M Shabbir Ahmed was out patrolling at Lamlong Keithel on Monday evening. The team stopped and frisked Wilson Keishing, following which 350gm of Heroin powder was recovered from him. Consequently, he was arrested and handed over to Porompat Police station for further investigation.

On the other hand, eight people including two women, who were allegedly pushing drugs, were detained by the locals of Leimakhong Chingmang under the jurisdiction of Sekmai Police Station at around 10 am on Monday and later on handed them over to the police.

In addition to these, upon receiving reliable information that some drug smuggling gangs were driving around in stolen vehicles at Sangaiyumpham Nungphou Mamang Leikai area in the wee hours of January 1, a combined team of 26 AR, Thoubal Commandos and women police led by DSP(Ops) Sachidananda Soibam under the supervision of SP K Meghachandra, immediately rushed to the said location and cordoned off for search.

Subsequently, 12 people who were found lingering near the house of one Md Alloc alias Deloc Khan of Sangaiyumpham Nungphou Mamang Leikai, were detained. Later, when the police searched the house of Md Alloc, a plastic bottle containing 9.5 gm of powder suspected to be Heroin; a blue vessel containing 95 pink tablets suspected to be WY tablets; Rs 38,510 in cash and a small carton box containing 1 dobutamine injection were recovered.

As Md Alloc was not at his home, his wife Sonia was arrested instead. 14 vehicles that were recovered from the site were also handed over to Thoubal Police station, along with the 12 people who were detained due to suspicion of being drug users, for further verification.
