15 guards of ex-CM test positive, Ibobi & family safe
IMPHAL, 2nd Sep: At least 15 escort personnel of former chief minister Okram Ibobi tested positive for Covid-19 in the past couple of days. However, the samples of the ex-CM and his family members returned negative.
Two of his security escorts were found positive at Babina Diagnostic Centre on Tuesday. Consequently, samples of other escort personnel and the ex-CM along with his family members were tested on Tuesday and Wednesday during which the results of 13 more personnel returned positive. One of the escort personnel is a police constable of Imphal West district police while one belongs to 2nd MR, 3 to 7th IRB and 10 to 1st MR. The ex-CM is staying at his official residence at Babupara, Imphal.
Meanwhile, situation is becoming alarming in the state as almost all the new cases turned out to be persons without travel history and from among the general population. Among the districts, Imphal West alone has one-fourth of the total confirmed cases of the state.
As per bulletin issued by Covid-19 Common Control Room (CCR), 125 fresh Covid-19 positive cases which include 123 persons (77 male & 19 female) from among the general population and two personnel from among Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) were detected at the RIMS - 7; JNIMS - 2; Raj Medicity - 8; Babina Diagnostics - 9; Imphal West RAT - 30; Jeevan Hospital - 2; Advance Hospital - 1; Maipakpi - 1; Kakching - 3; Bishnupur - 16; Shija Hospital - 2; Imphal East RAT - 5; Thoubal RAT - 10; Churachandpur RAT - 28; and Imphal Hospital - 1.
The virus infected persons are from Imphal West - 46; Imphal East - 8; Thoubal - 14; Bishnupur - 17; Chandel - 1; Churachandpur - 28; and Kakching -5 and all are locals without any significant travel history, the bulletin said. However, it did not mentioned details of four local cases. Moreover, DSO CCpur on Tuesday reported 30 fresh cases but IDSP statement reported only 28 cases in the district. There is no report of death and the cumulative number of deaths is 29.
In the past 24 hours, 157 patients were discharged from JNIMS (1), RIMS (5), RD Wing (11), CCCs of CAPF (63), Lamboi Khongnangkhong (45), UNACCO (29), JNV Chandel (2) and PR Kakching (1) after they were found COVID-19 free on RT PCR test. No district specific details of the freshly discharged cases are mentioned in the bulletin. However, our source informed that the new recoveries include one each from Bishnupur & Senapati, 2 from Kakching, 3 from Chandel, 7 from Thoubal, 14 from Imphal East and 62 from Imphal West. Till date, district locations of 1467 discharged cases are unavailable.
The cumulative number of positive cases is 6507 (general population - 4905 and Central Security Personnel - 1602). Number of recovered cases is 4607 (general population - 3660 and Central Security Personnel - 947) while number of active cases is 1871 (general population - 1218 and Central Security Personnel - 653). Recovery rate is 70.80 per cent.
Meanwhile, several positive cases, which are yet to be included in the CCR’s bulletin, were also detected in different hospitals and testing centres in Imphal area on Wednesday. These cases are from Wangoi, Meitram Awang Leikai, Phuramakhong Nambul Mapal, Keishamthong Kabui Khul, Serou Part 3 presently staying near BT Road, Thoubal, Khagempalli Nganappithong (2 cases), Yaiskul police lane, Sega Road Takhellambam Leikai (3), Thangal Keithel (4 cases – 2 from Shanti Stores), Singjamei Yumnam Leikai, Utlou Mayai Leikai, Uripok Bachaspati Leikai, Saheibung Kangpokpi (2) and several cases from 44 AR post Dikiuram.
Kakching district reported one case at Jeevan Hospital and the person is a resident of Sugnu area. Churachandpur district also reported five more cases on Wednesday of which two are returnees and three are native residents. The district has 684 total confirmed cases as of Wednesday, according to a status report issued by DSO Churachandpur.
Tengnoupal district reported 16 fresh cases and all the cases are residents of Beaularam village from where samples of 121 persons were collected on Tuesday and sent for testing at JNIMS. Following the report, the district surveillance team carried out RAT for around 80 persons in the village on Wednesday and detected one more positive case from Khokarthil village, our district correspondent quoted source in the CMO Tengnoupal.
As per data maintained by The People’s Chronicle, number of locally transmitted cases has reached 2707, which is 41.06 per cent of the total confirmed cases. Imphal West alone has 1183 local cases out of 1693 total cases, Thoubal 561 local cases out of 659 total confirmed cases, Imphal East 449 local cases out of 757 cases, Churachandpur 88 local cases out of 667 and Bishnupur has 127 local cases out of 221 total cases.
Number of local transmission cases in the remaining districts are Kangpokpi – 10, Ukhrul – 25, Senapati – 14, Tamenglong – 22, Kakching – 32, Kamjong – 10, Chandel – 46, Jiribam – 70, Noney – 27, and Tengnoupal – 30 while district location of 30 local cases are not available.
Data analysis by this daily shows that rate of infection has reached 2097 confirmed cases per million population against the national average of 2869 CPM. Test rate has further improved to 51844 tests per million population against the national average of 32,075 TPM. Positivity rate stands at 4 per cent while case fatality rate is 0.44 per cent against the national average of 1.76 per cent.
