Covid fatalities reach 29, CCpur sees virus upsurge

IMPHAL, 1st Sep: With the death of a 55-year old woman from Thoubal district, the total number of fatalities from Covid-19 in the state has reached 29 even as the total confirmed cases rose to 6382 with the detection of 130 new positive cases in the past 24 hours.
The 29th victim of the pandemic has been identified as Garamjan Bibi (55) wife of late Rashid Ali of Lilong Atoukhong, Thoubal district.
Sources said that Bibi had permanent pacemaker transplantation in 2019 and had been suffering from Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) and hypothyroidism. She was diagnosed with Covid-19 after she was admitted to the general medicine department of RIMS hospital with Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) symptoms on August 28. She died at RIMS hospital on Monday evening around 6.30.
Meanwhile, as many as 41 confirmed positive cases are missing from the tally reported by the Covid-19 Common Control Room (CCR) and Integrated Diseases Surveillance Programme (IDSP) authority. The missing cases are from Jiribam (16), Kakching (15) and Churachandpur (10). Two cases detected on Sunday and three on Monday in Sugnu area of Kakching district were missing from the IDSP and CCR reports for two straight days. Before that, the bulletin also tagged 18 police personnel of Sugnu PS as returnees. On the other hand, DSO Churachandpur reported 649 total confirmed cases in the district but the IDSP report shows only 639 cases on Tuesday.
Tuesday’s CCR bulletin reported 130 new positive cases of Covid-19 which include 127 persons (83 male & 44 female) from among the general population and 3 personnel from Central Armed Police Force (CAPF). The positive cases were detected at the VRDLs of RIMS – 17, JNIMS - 4; Raj Medicity - 4; Ukhrul - 2; Thoubal - 19; Shija Hospital - 2; Babina Diagnostics - 12; Kangpokpi - 2; Imphal West RAT - 50; Jirbam - 6; Churachandpur - 6; Bishnupur - 3; Imphal East - 2 and Tamenglong - 1.
Two persons from Tamenglong district are returnees while the 125 remaining cases from among the general population are locally transmitted cases. They are from Imphal West - 60; Imphal East - 5; Thoubal - 22; Ukhrul - 2; Bishnupur - 7; Churachandpur - 6; Senapati - 2; Kangpokpi - 2; Tamenglong - 12; and Jiribam – 6, the CCR bulletin said but failed to mention district location of one local case. In the past 24 hours, 120 patients were discharged. They are from CCCs of CAPF (54), Lamboi Khongnangkhong (38), UNACCO (14), PR Kakching (2), RD Wing (2), TK Ukhrul (1), Senapati (2), Noney (5) and Tamenglong (2) after they were found COVID- 19 free on RT PCR test.
The cumulative number of positive cases has reached 6382 (general population - 4782 and CAPF - 1600). Number of recovered cases has reached 4450 (general population-3566 and CAPF - 884) while number of active cases is 1903 (general population - 1189 and CAPF - 714). The recovery rate is 69.72 per cent.
At least six persons from Khoyathong Polem Leikai area and one from Mujikhul in Imphal West district have been found positive for Covid-19 on Tuesday. Of the six from Khoyathong, four are staying in rented quarters. New cases were also detected at Yourabung (2 cases), Yairipok Angtha, and New Lambulane (3) in Imphal East district.
In Kakching district, one non-local who came from Odisha recently by flight has been found positive for Covid-19. No detail of the purpose of his visit is known at the time of filing this report.
Situation is becoming alarming in Churachandpur district with 30 new cases, mostly local cases, were reported on Tuesday by the district surveillance officer. One is a returnee and five are CAPF including two personnel from the STC BSF camp while the remaining 24 are locally transmitted cases.
As per data maintained by The People’s Chronicle, number of locally transmitted cases has reached 2589, which is 40.57 per cent of the total confirmed cases of the state. Imphal East Alone has 1137 local cases out of 1647 total cases. Imphal East has 437 out of 744 cases; Thoubal has 547 out of 645; CCpur has 60 out of 639; and Bishnupur has 110 out of 204 cases. Numbers of local transmission cases in other districts are Kangpokpi (10), Ukhrul (25), Senapati (14), Tamenglong (22), Kakching (33), Kamjong (10), Chandel (45), Jiribam (70), Noney (27), and Tengnoupal (13) while district locations of 30 local cases are not available.
Data analysis by this daily shows that rate of infection has reached 2057 confirmed cases per million population against the national average of 2807 CPM. Test rate has improved to 50,950 tests per million population against the national average of 31,394 TPM. Positivity rate is 4.03 per cent and case fatality rate stands at 0.45 per cent.
