Gallantry medal withdrawn, tainted cops suspended
IMPHAL, 16th Aug: Consequent to media report and AMSU’s statement against awarding CM’s Police Medal for Gallantry to tainted CDO Imphal East SI Bheishamayum Debson, who was arrested for trafficking drugs worth more than Rs 3 crore in 2013, the home department has withdrawn the award and put him under suspension along with an inspector.
A statement issued by joint secretary (home), Rehanuddin Choudhury, expressed thankfulness to AMSU for bringing out the same to the notice of the government. Considering the seriousness of the matter, the government acted promptly and has withdrawn & cancelled the award to Debson based on preliminary enquiry and finding that the allegation is true. An enquiry has been instituted into the matter by a committee headed by IGP (intelligence) K Radhashyam Singh to find out more details, the statement informed.
It further stated that Inspector E Roshan Singh, reader to SP Imphal East, who was found responsible for lapses in the initial processing, has been placed under suspension. SP Imphal East has also suspended CDO Imphal East SI Debson for concealing the drug case pending against him, it added.
