Virus haunts RIMS, CAPF posts, 76 recovered
IMPHAL, 12th Aug: The threat of Covid-19 pandemic looms large over RIMS hospital and several CAPF posts located at different parts of the state as new cases without any travel history continue to crop up in different districts.
In the past 24 hours, 41 people, including 34 (19 male & 14 female) from the general population and seven personnel from Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), were confirmed as new COVID-19 positive cases in the state. The positive cases were detected at RIMS VRDL (13), Babina Diagnostic (3), Imphal West RAT (11), DH Jiribam (1), Kangpokpi (2), DH Churachandpur (5), and DH Thoubal (5), informed a statement of the Covid-19 Common Control Room.
Seven cases detected among the general population are returnees and three each of them belong to Kakching & Kamjong while one belongs to Noney district. The remaining 27 are locally transmitted cases and 13 are from Imphal West, six from Thoubal, four from Noney, and one each from Imphal East, Churachandpur and Kamjong, the statement informed.
However, it did not provide any district specific information for one local case. There is no report of death in the past 24 hours and the fatality count stands at 12.
At the same time, 76 patients were discharged in the past 24 hours. Two of them are from CAPF facility and others are from RIMS (4), CCCS of Meitram (23), Ukhrul (11), Thoubal (11) and RD Wing (25). However, no district specific information has been provided in the statement from CCR.
It further informed that the cumulative number of positive cases has reached 3982 of which 3086 are from among the general population and 896 from among CAPF personnel. Number of discharged cases is 2231 (general population 2059 and CAPF personnel-172), and number of active cases is 1739 (general population- 1015 and CAPF personnel - 724). The recovery rate is 56.02 per cent.
The state government constituted a 24x7 Hospitalization Helpline Number operated through State Health Agency (SHA). In the past three days, SHA attended to more than 250 cases. Any person facing difficulty in trying to get emergency services or admission in hospitals, may contact the toll free No 1800-103-2015 for assistance, the statement added.
Meanwhile, our Tamenglong correspondent, quoting source in the district surveillance officer's office, said that 31 personnel of Assam Rifles have been found positive for Covid-19 by late Wednesday evening. One is from 16 AR in Imphal West while the remaining 30 are from 44 AR located in Tamenglong district. No detail is known if the personnel are those posted at the battalion HQ located in the district HQ near Apollo Bazar or the company posts located at Khongsang and Akhui villages. Their samples were found positive during contact tracing operation of a previous case during which samples of 46 were tested. Samples of eight personnel are yet to be received, the source added. A doctor posted at RIMS casualty ward and a watchman of RIMS Gents Hostel No. 4 were also found positive for Covid-19 late Wednesday evening. Apart from that 13 patients and their family members, including a 16-year old boy and a 72-year old woman, were also found positive at RIMS hospital. No details are received if they were infected from within the hospital premises or from their home. They are from Hatta, Thangmeiband, Porompat, Singjamei Chinga Makha, Haoreibi Awang Leikai, Takhel Maning Leikai, Kongba Ucheckon, Zomi Villa, Lamphel, and Khabam Lamkhai areas.
Meanwhile, as per data compiled by The People’s Chronicle, number of local cases has reached 970, which is 24.13 per cent of the total confirmed cases. However, the rate further increases to 31.14 per cent if the number of CAPF personnel, whose cases are not counted in the local transmission cases, is to be included. Imphal West has highest number of local transmission cases with 324 cases followed by Thoubal district with 270 and Imphal East with 120. There are still 66 such cases, whose district origin is not known to this daily. The district specific figure might vary with the actual as the authority does not disclose such data to the media. Out of the 3982 total confirmed cases, 2765 are male and 1217 are female. As many as 909 persons, who returned from Delhi, are among the total case and they are the highest contributor in the tally. They are followed by CAPF (896), many of which are locally transmitted cases (within the camps), Bengaluru (238) and Chennai (186). Among the total cases, 22 are returnees from foreign countries.
Rate of infection has reached 1283 Confirmed Cases per Million (CPM) against the national average of 1780 CPM. Test rate had reached 33,600 on Tuesday but IDSP has failed to release the data needed to calculate the test rate on Wednesday.
