Congress to demand ‘division’ vote
IMPHAL, 9th Aug: Negating viral post on social media that some Congress MLAs skipped Sunday evening’s CLP meet to remonstrate against O Ibobi Singh’s leadership, a senior Congress leader has said that everything will come out in Monday’s assembly session to be convened as per existing Constitution of the country and the viral post on social media should not be given any attention.
In a telephonic conversation with The People’s Chronicle, a senior Congress leader informed that the party had already issued whip to all its legislators for Monday’s session.
While admitting that some members did not attend CLP meet held from 5pm to 7pm Sunday, the senior leader informed that they returned from Delhi recently after medical treatment and are under quarantine due to Covid pandemic. All of them have tested negative for COVID-19 and will attend Monday’s session as the party had already issued whip, the Congress leader while claiming that all those who skipped the CLP meet assured to abide by the party’s decision.
Regarding the ‘confidence’ motion, the senior Congress leader informed that the party will demand ‘division’ vote in the trust motion as it is already in the Rules and the current issues facing the state are irrespective of Ruling and Opposition but for the future of the state.
Congress party currently has 24 members technically but Sagolband MLA RK Imo had joined family politics and sidelined party’s principle and hence the party is unable to understand on which side he is right now. Nevertheless, Monday’s session will have separate seating arrangement for Ruling and Opposition members and no members of the Opposition could sit on the Ruling side and absent members, if any, in the session will be disqualified instantly as whip for the session had already been issued. Monday’s trust vote is not like Rajya Sabha election, the senior Congress leader added.
Meanwhile, MPCC spokesperson uploaded a video message on social media saying that there is no difference between the rejected ‘no confidence’ motion of Congress party and ‘confidence’ motion moved by the BJP led coalition government. He also said that Congress party is ready to raise different issues confronting people of the state like drug haul case, supply of substandard medical kits to frontline Covid fighters and lack of coordination among ministers during Monday’s session. Doordarshan Kendra Imphal used to live telecast proceedings of assembly sessions in the past. However, speaker’s prior announcement that DDK Imphal will not telecast proceedings of Monday’s session clearly shows that government is wary of its wrongdoings being exposed. He also said that coalition partners like NPP, NPF, LJP, TMC and Independent should support the issues raised by Congress party in the interest of the people of the state.
Meanwhile, a reliable source informed that Wangjing-Tentha MLA Paonam Brojen, Wabagai MLA Md Fajur Rahim and Saikul MLA Yamthong Haokip did not attend Sunday’s CLP meet as they were under quarantine after returning from Delhi. However, there is report of Paonam Brojen taking part a similar meet of Ruling legislatures convened by CM Biren at CM Bungalow.
Another source informed that some Congress legislators who skipped Sunday’s CLP meet are unlikely to attend Monday’s session as show of their opposition to O Ibobi Singh’s leadership.
