Ministry approves Imphal elevated highway corridor project
IMPHAL, 8th Aug: Union minister of road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari has given the green signal for construction of a 25km long elevated over bridge route in Imphal city to ease traffic congestion.
In connection with engagement of consultant for preparing a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the 25km elevated corridor in Imphal city, chief minister N Biren Singh wrote a letter to Union minister Nitin Gadkari on June 2 and the latter had responded positively and sent reply of the letter on July 8. The Union minister’s written reply informed the state CM that the ministry will initiate steps to prepare a DPR for the project though the decision for funding will be finalised after completing the DPR.
Expressing gratefulness, chief minister N Biren Singh uploaded a post on his Facebook account saying that a dream project for the state would be coming after construction of Makru, Barak and Irang bridges along NH-37.
The new project will develop a 25km elevated highway corridor from Koirengei to Manipur University gate, Imphal to airport and Imphal to Langjing Achouba. This will reduce traffic congestion in Imphal city at least to some extent, Biren said in the post with the tagline ‘My politics is humanity and development’.
