MLAs elected Ibobi CLP leader: MPCC chief
IMPHAL, 7th Aug: While asserting that O Ibobi Singh was elected Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader as per consensus of the party MLAs, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee president M Okendro said RK Imo’s reply to the ‘show cause’ notice was very unfortunate as it was against party’s constitution.
Addressing media persons at Congress Bhawan Friday, Okendro said Congress MLAs RK Imo and O Henry voted against party’s candidate in Rajya Sabha election held on June 19 last. The party was compelled to issue ‘show cause’ notices to both the MLAs on July 24 after their anti-party activities were reported in local dailies in addition to their cross-voting in the Rajya Sabha election and both of them submitted their replies in writing Thursday. However, it was very unfortunate that RK Imo’s reply to the ‘Show cause’ notice tried to expose Congress as a divided house unable to take decision of own problems, Okendro said.
While maintaining that O Ibobi was elected CLP leader after party’s MLAs agreed, M Okendro said RK Imo’s allegation against Ibobi in reply to the ‘show cause’ notice lacks decency and smacks of political immaturity.
As RK Imo claims to be Congress MLA in his reply to the ‘show cause’ notice, he should follow party’s constitution, Okendro said and maintained that there is no division or infighting in the party. Though an MLA can express personal opinion, the party has its own disciplinary committee to take action if one violates party’s constitution and the committee will decide action to be initiated after thorough discussion, Okendro added. While reminding that Congress is a party which brought India’s independence, M Okendro said RK Imo hails from a family attached to the party since long time back and his father too served as chief minister of the state as representative of the party. Apart from this, RK Imo’s grandfather served as party’s president in the past and it would be unwise for him to express personal opinion without any consideration for time and place, the MPCC president said.
Okendro further said that replies of both the MLAs would be discussed further and it is natural for any political party to issue ‘show cause’ notice he/she voted against party’s candidate.
