CHORNICLE BUREAU
IMPHAL/CCPUR, 7th Aug: An Enquiry Committee has been formed to investigate into the death of a minor following alleged denial of treatment at District Hospital, Churachandpur.
An order issued by Churachandpur DM Pawan Yadav informed that the committee will consist of three members with SDO Churachandpur S Ginmon Ngaite as chairman, chief medical officer Dr VS Pao Tonsing as member secretary and SDPO Churachandpur Vijay Kumar (MPS) as member.
The Committee will investigate if any errors were made by the staffers of the district hospital and submit a report on the findings before August 17.
The old infant died Thursday evening after the unnamed baby was denied admission into Churachandpur district hospital apparently due to fear of the hospital personnel contracting COVID-19.
Parents of the baby took him to Churachandpur district hospital casualty ward at about 6pm Thursday on the advice of a private doctor as condition of the baby was critical. However, doctors and nurses of the hospital refused admission and instead told the parents to turn up the next day at OPD. The parents were also asked as to whether they have any travel history at a time when they were already in tense situation due child's deteriorating health conditions.
Meanwhile, baby’s father Lallompiak lodged a complaint to medical superintendent of Churachandpur district hospital against nurses and doctors on duty at casualty between 6-7pm Thursday for refusing to admit his child.
As news spread like wildfire about baby’s demise after district hospital refused admission, large number of people gathered in front of the hospital and demanded strict action against erring doctors and nurses. The protesters marched from Dorcas Veng from where the deceased baby hailed under the initiative of YPA Dorcas Veng unit and took to Tipaimukh road and IB road till reaching Churachandpur district hospital. Police managed to control the protesters but they shouted slogans against erring doctors and nurses.
Later, medical superintendent Vanlalkungi, CMO Dr VC Pau, SDO Churachandpur Ginmuan Ngaihte and other officials met the protesters in front of the main gate of the hospital wherein protesters submitted a memorandum to SDO Ginmuan Ngaihte.
The memorandum demanded punitive action against health professionals on duty during 6-7pm Thursday, ex-gratia, unconditional apology from district hospital administration and strict measures to prevent such incident in future.
