IMPHAL, 3rd Aug: Additional director health and spokesperson Dr Kh Sasheekumar has said that spraying Sodium Hypochlorite on roads and public places to contain COVID-19 pandemic would be hazardous to humans as well as animals.
Addressing media persons during a press conference Monday, Dr Sasheekumar said COVID-19 virus stays at throat and nose of the infected person and this virus could not survive for long when the infected person happens to cough or sneeze and the virus dies or weakens when exposed to atmosphere. Hence, the concept of spraying Sodium Hypochlorite on roads and public places to get rid of the virus would be wrong, he said adding that residue of Sodium Hypochlorite would not only affect environment but also cause cancer. He suggested taking opinion of experts if spraying of Sodium Hypochlorite is considered necessary.
Regarding death of a pregnant mother during delivery in Thoubal district and demise of a minor after drowning at Mayang Imphal, Dr Sasheekumar said lacking medical attention in both the cases was due to misunderstanding.
In the case of Mayang Imphal, doctors would definitely want to refer the minor to other hospital on safety reasons while those who brought the minor would had wanted treatment under any circumstances, he said adding that thoughts of both the sides were right.
