UKHRUL, 31st Jul: The ongoing travel restrictions have actuated an anticipated corollary of checking vehicular movement into or out of the twin districts of Ukhrul and Kamjong for the fourth day on Friday.
Dozens of volunteers of Tangkhul Coordination Forum on Covid19 (TCFC) are enforcing the travel restrictions at different strategic locations along the Ukhrul-Imphal route since July 27.
"We are imposing the travel restrictions in or out of the two districts as a part of precautionary measures to prevent possible outbreak of community transmission of Coronavirus here", TCFC secretary Vareinam Gachuiwo told The People's Chronicle over the phone on Friday.
He informed that TCFC volunteers are strictly enforcing the restrictions by keeping vigil at main exit/entry points like Mahadev and Ramrei village along the Ukhrul-Imphal route.
"Almost all forms of travelling in or out of the two districts have been stopped, except absolutely emergency cases like transportation of essential goods", Gachuiwo said.
He reminded that the restrictions would continue to be in force till August 6 and during this period, movement of vehicles would remain restricted to only those dealing with emergency activities like ferrying of essential commodities or seeking medical needs or attending to death cases.
It may be recalled that Tangkhul Coordination Forum on Covid-19 (TCFC) imposed the entry-exit restrictions on locals/visitors in the twin districts on July 27 as precautionary measures against the backdrop of detection of rising COVID-19 cases with no recent travel history in several parts of the state.
It had appealed to all the residents of two districts, irrespective of communities, to refrain from travelling in and out of the two districts, except for medical emergency or death cases, for a period till August 6.
The forum had also warned of stringent actions against anyone found violating the restriction order during the said period.
