Penalty kicks decided both quarterfinal matches on Sunday as SSU and DM-RAU rose to the contests to complete the last-four line-up of the Shaheed Manoranjan Memorial CRPF Football Tournament at Artificial Turf Ground.
SSU and TRAU were the first two teams to take the field, vying for a semifinal spot. Goals eluded both sides for the entire 90 minutes of back-and-forth exchanges and the game went straight to penalty shootout where SSU prevailed 4-3 over the opposition.
In the shootout, SSU delivered on all of their four attempts as N Sushil, Tontonba, Dinakumar and Md Abdul Salam converted their shots and helped the team pull off a thrilling win for their place in the semifinals.
TRAU faltered in the contest with three conversions courtesy of Abocha, Phalguni and Ng Prem.
The other quarterfinal match too had to be settled in a shootout as DM-RAU made the most of the spot kicks to earn their passage to the last four.
Both teams were tied goalless in regulation time, resulting in the penalty shootout as DM-RAU swept aside their opponents with goals from Ngaraipam, Thanjoylen, Prikanta, Y Sushil and Mayosing. For KLASA, Ch Roshan, Th Ngouba and T Sushil were the scorers in a losing cause.
The semifinals will take place on Monday (December 18) with NC Club taking on SSU and AIM playing against DM-RAU. The final will be held on December 20.
