State records highest single day spike of 141 cases

IMPHAL, 29th Jul: With the government confirming 141 new cases without proper travel history in the past 24 hours, which is the highest single day spike ever in the state, possibility of community transmission of Covid-19 looms large in the state.
Meanwhile, RIMS anaesthesiology department continues to face the threat of Covid-19 with more PG students contracting the virus late Wednesday evening. Though the exact number of new cases in the department is not known, source said that at least three or four PG students have been infected.
As per statement issued by Covid-19 Common Control Room, 141 persons (117 male & 24 female) were confirmed as new Covid-19 positive cases at the VRDLs of RIMS (12), JNIMS (78), DHs of Thoubal (7), Churachandpur (9), Tamenglong (4), Babina Diagnostic Centre (2), 1st MR (3), and Imphal West Rapid Antigen test (26). They belong to the districts of Imphal West (30), Churachandpur (51), Thoubal (8), Imphal East (7), Bishnupur (2), Senapati (29), Kakching (7), Kamjong (3) and Tamenglong (4).
The risk factors and travel history of most of the positive cases are under investigation and are being awaited, the statement said. It also informed that they are being shifted to Covid Care facilities, and all necessary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place.
Sources revealed that maximum of the 78 cases detected at JNIMS VRDL are security personnel belonging to BSF, CRPF and Assam Rifles. However, no details have been provided by the authority.
The CCR statement also informed that 38 persons were discharged from JNIMS (6), CCCs of Meitram (16), Ukhrul (7), and Thoubal (9) in the past 24 hours. As usual, the statement did not provide any specific information for the newly discharged cases. As per the statement, the cumulative number of positive cases has reached 2458 while numbers of active and recovered cases are 805 and 1653 respectively. The recovery rate slipped to 67.24 per cent. The state has conducted 83,111 tests so far including 2508 in the last 24 hours and the test rate has improved to 26,784 tests per million population. Rate of infection has increased to 792 cases per million population.
On the other hand, a male employee of National Health Mission (NHM) Manipur, who was declared negative during Rapid Antigen Test, has been picked up by health authority after his test results turned out to be positive. The incident occurred on July 25 when the entire staff of NHM office were tested after two of its staff were found to be positive of Covid-19. The authority informed that his result was negative after which he returned home. Hours later, he was told that his test result returned positive and consequently, he was shifted to CCC of UNACCO School at Meitram.
Out of the seven new cases of Kakching district, one is a commando personnel posted at Pallel CDO. He is a resident of Irengband Mairenbam in Kakching district and authorities are not sure how and from where he got infected with the virus. Samples of seven of his family members and 24 other CDO personnel having contact history with him will be tested on Thursday morning. STAFF REPORTER

They have been shifted to the Covid Care Centre set up at Padma Ratna English School, Kakching. With the seven new cases, total number of Covid-19 positive cases in the district has reached 126 of which 98 have been recovered and discharged.
Of the 28 active cases, 22 are undergoing treatment at the CCC of Padma Ratna English School. Altogether 51 persons are staying in different quarantine centres in the district. Samples of 3095 persons have been sent for testing of which results for 2952 have arrived while results for 107 are awaited. The district conducted only four Rapid Antigen Tests on Wednesday, our Kakching correspondent quoted the district surveillance officer Dr Kiran Elangbam as saying.
In Thoubal district, 16 new cases, which have contact history with infected persons, were detected on Wednesday. RAT was conducted on 154 persons at Thoubal district hospital of which four samples returned positive.
The remaining 12 positive cases were detected during RAT of 250 persons conducted by the district mobile testing team at Khekman. All of them will be sent to CCC Meitram, adds our Thoubal correspondent.
Total positive cases in Churachandpur district has increased to 241 on Wednesday after detection of 51 cases. At the same time, our Churachandpur correspondent reported that 13 new cases were also detected in the district on late Wednesday.
Nine of them are BSF personnel, two from Sielmat Quarantine centre and one each from district hospitals isolation ward and a driver of MSF as per report released by district surveillance officer. Out of the 241 total confirmed cases, 154 have recovered and 87 are active cases.
Meanwhile, the district police collected fine of Rs 10,600 from 53 persons who were pulled up for violating lockdown guidelines.
Imphal West has climbed up to the top of tally with 310 total confirmed cases while Kangpokpi and Ukhrul are in the second and third spot with 284 and 266 cases respectively.
In terms of active cases, Imphal West is in the first place with 174 and followed by Thoubal and Kangpokpi with 149 and 142 active cases respectively.
