Brinda detained for lockdown SOP

IMPHAL, 28th Jul: Regarding detention of three persons including MPS officer Th Birnda at Sangaiprou traffic crossing on Monday midnight, IGP (Zone I) K Jayenta clarified that they were held for violating lockdown and curfew norms but released after paying fine.
Addressing media persons at Imphal West SP conference hall Tuesday, Jayenta said a Hyundai car (MN-01-G-3839) with tinted film bypassed a police barricade in Kakching district at about 10.20pm Monday after one woman occupant of the car said that she is additional SP. After SP Kakching relayed the information to SP Imphal West, a patrol team of Imphal West police intercepted the vehicle at Sangiprou crossing at about 12.50 am Tuesday. When the police team tried to verify identity of occupants of the car moving against lockdown guideline, none of them cooperated and even did not disclosed reason for their travel. When more police teams rushed to the site, occupants of the car were later identified as Thounaojam Brinda wife of RK Chinglen of Yaiskul Janmasthan, Phairenbam Sonia wife of Chanambam Ibungo of Bishnupur Ward No 7 and Huidrom Anil son of Nabakumar of Wangkhei Laishram Leikai.
As disclosed by Sonia during further questioning, she was picked by MPS officer Brinda from Anil’s home at 6pm Monday and drove towards Irilbung, Ngariyan, Yairipok in Imphal East and then to Thoubal bazar and Khongjom and further to Kakching, Kakching Khunou, Wangoo Lamkhai in Kakching district. She also said that they returned to Malom via Kumbi, Moirang and Bishnupur in Bishnupur district, Jayenta said adding that the trio also offered prayer at Thangjing deity at 12 midnight but did not disclosed where they went midway when police tried to ascertain if they went through areas declared as containment zone and met people there.
Jayenta also said that Brinda obstructed the police team from removing tinted film and all of them were released at 2.30am Tuesday after paying fine for violating lockdown guideline.
While terming as unfortunate the derogatory messages against a police officer uploaded on social media post by the detained woman police officer, Jayenta said additional SP Brinda’s vehicle in under surveillance as she belongs to the family of a militant leader who is currently in home. As per the understanding of providing security by state police, every person and vehicle entering militant leader’s home are under surveillance, Jayenta said adding disciplinary action could be initiated against Brinda as she belongs to a discipline force.
Jayenta also said that legal action against Erendro Leichombam has been initiated for posting a derogatory post against titular king Leishemba Sanajaoba on social media after a complaint was filed at Porompat police station by Uttra Shanglen.
The press conference was also attended by DIG (Range I) Themthing Ngasangva, SP Imphal East H Jogeschandra and Imphal West SP K Meghachandra.
