Bishnupur, Kakching cops seize drugs

IMPHAL, 26th Jul: Bishnupur district police commandos on Saturday evening recovered 3.7 kg of brown sugar from the western hills of Pukhao in Imphal East district.
According to a press communiqué by Bishnupur district SP Priyadarshini Laishram, a commando unit led by ASI A Haridas went on a special duty at Sagolmang upon receiving reliable inputs.
The team duly informed about their movement to Imphal East Control at about 5.30pm Saturday. When the team reached Sagolmang Saikul road, they came across a suspicious man carrying a bag and on seeing the security forces the man crossed a nearby canal and escaped into the darkness.
When the police carried out a search of the area, they recovered a school bag. On checking the contents of the bag, they found 3.7 kg of brown sugar, which was packed into 8 transparent plastic bags, along with a photocopy of an Aadhaar card.
The seized items have been handed over to Sagolmang PS for initiation of further legal action, it added.
On the other-hand, a team of Kakching district police led by SI L Rocky Singh and Kakching police station OC N Tikendra Meetei raided dwelling place of a drug trafficker at Pallel Bazaar and recovered brown sugar concealed in 100 soap cases on Sunday.
In a release, Kakching Police SP informed that based on reliable information, the team raided dwelling place of one drug trafficker at Pallel Bazaar at 11:20 am. The drug trafficker has been identified as Lhunkholen Lhanghaal (31) s/o Thangkhomang Lhanghal of Aigejang Saivom village, Tengnoupal district.
On checking the bedroom of Lhunkholen, the team discovered one plastic sack containing 100 numbers of soap cases filled with powder like substances suspected to be brown sugar.
On initial interrogation, Lhunkholen revealed that the contents of the soap cases were contraband brown sugar brought from Moreh for selling to drug users.
During the raid, another person identified as Onkhogin Baite (35) s/o Paomang Baite of Tipi Lokchao, Tengnoupal district was found present at the spot. On questioning, Lhunkholen revealed that Onkhogin was sent by one Paolin Baite of Lokchao for safekeeping of the contraband items.
After furnishing arrest memo in the presence of witnesses, both Lhunkholen Lhanghaal and Onkhogin Baite were arrested.
The arrested people along with the seized items have been handed over to Tengnoupal Police for necessary action, the release added.
