Senapati DH doctor tests positive for Covid-19
SENAPATI, 25th Jul: Subsequent to a doctor posted at the Senapati District Hospital testing positive for Covid-19 on Friday, the district magistrate has issued an order asking all the citizens to remain indoors.
Even as infection of the doctor and issuance of the prohibitory order have stunned the public as they didn’t have the time to stock essential commodities, the district authorities have swung into action to prevent further spread of the infectious disease.
The doctor hailing from Lilong reportedly tested positive during a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) in Imphal. Accordingly, the district’s chief medical officer (CMO) has also issued an order asking all primary contacts of said doctor, including doctors, nurses and staff of the hospital, to report at Mini Stadium, Senapati for relevant tests.
Till the time of filing this report, swap samples of 120 people have been collected and the results are likely to be known by Sunday.
As part of the preventive measures, district magistrate Lalithambigai K has issued prohibitory order under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973.
The order mentioned that the present situation in the district is ‘very sensitive and is likely to cause danger to human lives, health and public safety if left unchecked’.
Normal functioning of the District Hospital has been put on hold with immediate effect until further orders while all commercial establishments in the district headquarters have been ordered to cease operation for five days. According to sources, doctor is from Lilong area in Thoubal district and he is suspected to have contracted the disease at his home, from where he returned to the district on July 19. The sources revealed that while at home, the doctor tended to a person who tested positive for Covid-19 some days after consulting the physician.
Unaware of his health status, the doctor also attended to patients at the hospital’s OPD and general wards on July 20 and 21. As a precautionary measure, contact tracing of both primary and secondary contacts have been initiated.
