NHM staff posted at CM secretariat tests positive
IMPHAL, 25th Jul: Two officials of the National Health Mission (NHM) Manipur including one posted at the Covid-19 Common Control Room located inside the Darshan hall of CM’s secretariat, and a medical officer posted at Senapati district hospital have tested positive for Covid-19.
Durbar hall of the CM Secretariat and adjoining Police HQs as well as 'Ngari' Gully (alley) in Thangal Bazar and areas around Lamphel CP Quarter have been declared as containment zones.
With 44 new cases reporting from Thoubal district, it now has 113 cases of local transmission. The total number of local transmission cases in the state has reached 186 including 18 healthcare workers & healthcare related officials as per data compiled by The People’s Chronicle. The number may differ from the official figure but TPC could not confirm the official count since the state health authority does not disclose these data.
The two NHM staff was among 30 new cases (25 male & 5 female) of Covid-19 reported in the last 24 hours at VRDLs of RIMS (24), JNIMS (1) and DHs of Thoubal (1) & Ukhrul (4). As per report of CCR, except for three persons from Imphal East, Imphal West and Thoubal, all are returnees from other states. Twenty nine persons were also discharged from RIMS (1), CCCs of Meitram (1), RD Wing Lamphel (1), Ukhrul (3), Churachandpur (11), Senapati (11), and Chandel (1). Total case has reached 2176 while numbers of active and recovered cases are 656 and 1520 respectively with a recovery rate of 69.85 per cent. No district specific information of both new and freshly discharged cases is provided by the health authority.
Meanwhile, source said that the medical officer posted at District Hospital Senapati, whose result came positive on Friday, is a resident of Lilong in Thoubal district and he attended OPD on July 20 and 21. The situation prompted the district administration in sealing the district hospital and carrying out a mass testing of all those who came in contact with the doctor.
The NHM staff posted at the common control room located at the CM secretariat went to Senapati district on an official visit and he came into contact with the medical officer from Lilong during the visit. The NHM staffer is stated to be a resident of Thangal Keithel area in Imphal West district and his result also came positive on Friday.
During contact tracing process, another woman staff of NHM Manipur was also tested positive for Covid-19 on Saturday. She is said to be from Ragailong area. Subsequent to the detection, the health authority carried out contact tracing and testing process for the close contacts of the two NHM staffers as well as sanitisation activities were taken up both at the CM’s secretariat and NHM office. However, the state health authority did not provided any information in this regard.
On the other hand, sources informed that 11 cases of Covid positive were detected in the family line of CRPF Langjing. A one year old girl, a 12 years old girl and a 17 years old boy are among the 11 cases in the CRPF post.
In Kakching district, three new cases including an AR jawan, were confirmed to be positive of Covid-19 during test conducted at RIMS VRDL. The AR man recently returned from Dimapur and was under quarantine. The remaining two are also Kakching natives who recently returned from other states and were staying at Martin Grammar School Quarantine Centre. The district has now 117 total confirmed cases of which 98 have been discharged. There are 82 persons under quarantine in the district, our Kakching correspondent quoted district surveillance officer Dr Kiran Elangbam as saying.
Thoubal district also reported 44 new cases of Covid-19 on Saturday of which 8 were detected at RIMS, 10 at district hospital and 26 at mobile RAT testing centre set up at Thoubal Moijing High School. As per report from the district surveillance officer, 170 samples were tested at the district hospital of which 10 results came positive of Covid-19. At the Moijing mobile testing centre, 26 out of 87 samples were tested positive. As the Covid Care Centre set up at Thoubal district hospital is almost filled up already, many of the new cases will be shifted to the Covid Care Centre at Meitram Awang in Imphal West, our Thoubal correspondent quoted the DSO as saying.
Out of the eight positive cases of the district reported at RIMS, four are from Thoubal battalion of Assam Rifles (26 AR). These include a four-year old boy and a six years old girl. Of the remaining four, one is from Lilong and three from Moijing.
Out of the 10 fresh cases detected at Thoubal district hospital, eight are family members and relatives of an earlier positive case from Thoubal Achouba. The other two are close contacts of Lilong Atoukhong GP Pradhan. On the other hand, the 26 cases detected at Moijing are all contacts of Moijing GP Pradhan and ward members who were confirmed for Covid-19 earlier. At least 122 active cases have been reported in the district and 74 persons are staying in different quarantine centres.
Meanwhile, Educational Guide Centre Thoubal Moijing president Md Kheiruddin Shah Moijingmayum, who is also a co-convener of JCILPS Manipur has expressed serious concern over the prevailing situation at Thoubal Moijing and demanded the government to declare instances of community transmission. He also urged the government to take up sanitisation activities in the area and prevent the village from becoming a major hotspot.
As per late report 10 more cases are also reported in Imphal West district which are yet to be announced officially. The People’s Chronicle could not confirm any details like travel history or contact history for the nine cases but they could be returnees as per our source.
As per TPC’s data, 18 healthcare worker and healthcare related officials have been tested positive which include five doctors, five nurses, three lab technicians, two NHM officials, one each of PG student, attendant and UDC. Thoubal district has 114 cases of local transmission, 56 in Jiribam, six in Imphal West, five in Bishnupur, three in Churchandpur, and one each in Ukhrul and Imphal East.
Source of infection for a positive case from Bishnupur district, who works in a private diagnostic lab in Churachandpur, is still not known. The health authority has not provided any information in this regard.
As per report issued by IDSP, 1060 samples were tested in the last 24 hours and the cumulative number of tests has reached 76,992. Test rate has improved to 24,812 tests per million population while rate of infection has also increased to 701 confirmed cases per million population. Currently 3046 persons are undergoing quarantine period in different centres. In the last 24 hours, 695 truckers and 287 commuters including 203 flight passengers were screened for Covid symptoms before entering the state.
