12 more local transmission cases in Thoubal
IMPHAL, 22nd Jul: With the detection of 12 fresh positive cases, all having contact history with patients infected earlier, Thoubal district has now at least 52 cases of local transmission as contact tracing in the district intensified.
Subsequent to declaration of entire Thoubal district as containment zone due to spike in cases of COVID-19 infection, Manipur Legislative Assembly secretary M Ramani has issued an order prohibiting entry of officers/officials/employees/visitors from Thoubal district to New Assembly Complex, Guest House (Majorkhul) and Old assembly complex.
Following the imposition of total curfew and rapid increase in local transmission, Thoubal district wore a deserted look on Wednesday. No movement of public could be seen in markets and roads in the entire district except for essential services and law enforcing agencies. DC Thoubal has declared two quarantine centres located at New Ideal High School, Thoubal and Sangaiyumpham Higher Secondary School Block C, along with surrounding areas of Lilong Dam Mathak as containment zones.
As per statement released by Covid-19 Common Control Room (CCR), 45 persons (40 male and 5 female) were confirmed as new Covid-19 positive cases at VRDL JNIMS (21), DHs of Jiribam (13), Thoubal (4) and Ukhrul (7). They belong to the districts of Churachandpur (12), Imphal East (4), Jiribam (13), Thoubal (4), Senapati (5), and Ukhrul (7). All, except for the four individuals from Thoubal district, who have contact history with earlier cases, are returnees from other states, the statement said.
However, a report from district officials collected by our Thoubal correspondent said that eight more positive cases were detected by late evening and their details could not be included in the reports compiled by IDSP and CCR. Nine positive cases were detected at District Hospital Thoubal and three at mobile testing unit set up at Thoubal Moijing High School. All the 12 persons have close contact history with earlier confirmed cases from among the volunteers of quarantine centres at Lilong and Thoubal areas. One of the new case from Lilong is a staffer of MSPDCL Corporate Office, South Block.
At the same time, all the 13 cases of Jiribam district are personnel of 37 Assam Rifles, Kadamtala post. The AR post has now 30 positive cases.
With Thoubal district accounting for 52 cases of local transmission and Jiribam tallying 57 such cases, the total number of local transmission cases in the state has reached 120 as per data compiled by The People’s Chronicle. However, the figure may differ and could be higher as the state health authority does not release such statistical data in the public domain for reasons best known to them.
On the other hand, 34 persons were discharged from CCCs of Meitram (23), JNV Kangpokpi (3), and Covid Care Facilities of RIMS (2) and JNIMS (6) in the last 24 hours after their test results came negative on RT PCR test.
The freshly discharged persons belong to Bishnupur (2), Chandel (7), Churachandpur (1), Imphal East (2), Imphal West (1), Jiribam (9), Kamjong (2), Kangpokpi (5), Tamenglong (3) and Thoubal (2). Kangpokpi and Ukhrul district share the top spot with 259 cases each. Tamenglong and Imphal West districts are in the second and third place with 199 and 198 cases respectively. Kangpokpi tops the tally in terms of active cases followed by Imphal West and Thoubal with 85 and 80 active cases respectively.
The cumulative number of positive cases has reached 2060 while numbers of active and recovered cases are 642 and 1418 respectively. The recovery rate has further improved to 68.68 per cent while rate of infection has further increased to 664 cases per one million population.
The CCR statement further informed that there is no report of any death due to Covid-19 from any part of the state. It is reminded that a jawan of the 37 AR posted at Pailanpool of Cachar district, Assam was found positive and treated at Silchar Medical College, but passed away there on July 19, the statement added.
The state has so far conducted 73,866 tests including 813 in the last 24 hours as per status update released by IDSP. As of Wednesday evening 2.38 per cent of the state’s population have been tested for Covid-19 and the test rate is 23,804 per one million population. Currently, 2735 persons are kept under quarantine including 81 in paid quarantine centres. In the last 24 hours, 795 truckers and 531 commuters were screened for Covid symptoms. Of the 531 commuters, 394 are flight passengers while 104 entered via Mao gate and 33 via Jiribam, the statement informed.
Earlier there were data mismatch between the statements of IDSP and CCR regarding the figure of fresh discharged, recovered and active cases, and this daily carried out story in this regard. On Wednesday’s reports, the two statements showed same numbers in terms of cumulative, recovered, active and new cases but variation remains regarding number of fresh discharge figures.
