PMGKAY items to NFSA beneficiaries only: Karam Shyam
IMPHAL, 13th Jul: Benefits of Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY), which were provided to all citizens in view of the Coronavirus pandemic, will now be provided from July to November to the National Food Security Act (NFSA) beneficiaries only, CAF&PD minister Karam Shyam has informed.
Speaking during distribution of six months’ honorarium to Fair Price Shop (FPS) agents through district supply officer (DSO) held at his Old Secretariat office on Monday, Karam Shyam observed that economy of the world has been badly hit by Covid-19, and this has affected the daily wage earners even more. When everyone is staying at home out of fear of the getting infected by Covid-19, it is the FPS agents who have come out and distributed rice and dal to ease the suffering of common people, the minister noted.
Recognising their humane service, government is distributing six months’ honorarium to FPS agents which amount to Rs 2,48,64,912 for 11 districts through their respective DSO. As Senapati, Tamenglong, Noney, Chandel and Tengnoupal districts have not submitted their bills, release of honorarium for these districts has put on hold, he informed.
The minister appealed to the DSOs to hand over the money to agents in a judicious manner. Any complaint of denial of the money would be looked into and the culprits will be severely dealt with. Complaints can be filed to him or CAF&PD commissioner or director, the minister said.
He also requested all the 46 MLAs, whose Assembly Constituencies are enclosed by the 11 districts, for which the honorarium is being distributed to ensure that the payment reach the agents in full amount.
Karam Shyam pointed out that PMGKAY rice is allotted based on number of NFSA beneficiaries. However, to ensure that all citizens have access to food grains, the deficient quantity was brought from Open Market Sale (OMS) at the rate of Rs 22.50 per kg. However, due to weakening of the national economy and absence of provision from government for buying the deficient amount of rice from OMS, decision has been taken for distributing PMGKAY rice only to NFSA beneficiaries. Even if some adjustment is done to provide rice to everyone, some NFSA card holders may complain on social media platform or internet that they are not getting their allotted amount and if it reaches the Prime Minister, the state’s honour will be in tatters. As it is very sensitive time, it is not possible to carry out the distribution to accommodate everyone. Considering this the people of the state are requested to understand the matter, the minister urged. CAF&PD commissioner Bobby Waikhom, director Ranjan Yumnam and DSO officials of the concerned districts were also present during the programme.
