CorCom boycotts PM’s visit, calls total shutdown
IMPHAL, 23rd FEB: Announcing boycott of the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the proscribed Coordination Committee (CorCom) has imposed a total shutdown throughout the state on February 25.
The Prime Minister is scheduled to visit Manipur on February 25 to campaign for BJP in connection with the upcoming 11th Manipur Legislative Assembly election. The total shutdown will be effective from 6am till the PM left Imphal, CorCom said in a statement and appealed to people not to participate in any function attended by Narendra Modi.
While reminding that the outfit has been boycotting every visit of Indian rulers in Manipur, CorCom alleged that the purposed visit of the Indian Prime Minister was nothing but to prolong its oppressive rule in Manipur and the people of the soil. Indian leaders often visited Manipur and the region to root out the indigenous people by its divide and rule policy, the CorCom statement said, adding that Indian leaders are attempting to even wipe out the footprints of the indigenous people from its own soil.
It also said that India has been suppressing the people of the region for the last 67 years of its occupation using various tactics and atrocities and people of the region have been struggling for regaining their lost sovereignty.
