Subashchandra’s ‘twisted’ statement shameful: Ex-CM
IMPHAL, 10th Jul: Refuting the charges made by former Naoriya Pakhanglakpa MLA S Subashchandra against two Congress MLAs and a Congress member regarding his resignation, former chief minister and CLP leader Okram Ibobi Singh has termed the alleged ‘twisted’ statement of the resigned BJP MLA as unfounded and shameful.
According to Ibobi, Subashchandra had voluntarily resigned from his MLAship and primary membership of BJP and even declared his resignation in public. However, the MLA has twisted his earlier statement now and accused two Congress MLAs namely Th Lokeshwar and K Meghachandra and Congress member H Vikramjit of threatening and slapping him to effect the resignation, which indeed is not true and shameful, Ibobi said.
Addressing media persons at Congress Bhawan here Friday, O Ibobi said that Subashchandra’s complaint at Patsoi police station mentioned conspiracy between BJP minister Th Biswajit and some Congress MLAs behind his resignation. In complete contrast to what he had mentioned in the police complaint, Subashchandra now blames the Congress trio of threatening him. Subashchandra’s allegation against the Congressmen is not true as he had himself declared in front of media that he resigned voluntarily from MLA and primary membership of BJP.
Apart from this, Subashchandra had personally written his resignation letter on June 17, 2020 and submitted the same to the Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly and BJP Manipur Pradesh president. Accordingly, the Speaker accepted Subashchandra’s resignation and declared the seat of Naoriya Pakhanglakpa Assembly Constituency vacant.
As the Speaker apprised the Election Commission of India about the vacant seat, Subashchandra’s name was not listed in the electoral roll of Rajya Sabha election held on June 19, 2020. Subashchandra remained silent for a long time after June 19 and filed a complaint at Patsoi police station only on July 4 praying for initiating FIR against those threatening him. Conspiracy between minister Biswajit and some Congress MLAs was mentioned in one of the complaints filed by the ex-MLA, Ibobi claimed. The former chief minister also said that Congress party has no relation with BJP minister Th Biswajit but ex-MLA Subashchandra along with some ruling MLAs and ministers repeatedly approached Congress party to topple the government and form a new one, Ibobi said and termed as unfortunate to bring undemocratic political scenario in the state by those playing cheap politics.
Regarding the recent camp, he said that H Vikramjit is a Congress member and the camp was held at his private residence after getting his approval. While maintaining that Congress remains as a constructive opposition and the recent political development was creation of ministers and MLAs of BJP led coalition government, O Ibobi clarified that the recent camp at Vikramjit’s residence was purely on team spirit and no one was forced to join the camp. Whom ex-MLA Subashchandra talked to through mobile phone while staying at the camp could be known after perusing relevant records, he said and alleged that clandestine acts of some MLAs and ministers of BJP led coalition government had made mockery of Indian democracy.
