MLA Kh Joykisan launches Covid-19 pension scheme

IMPHAL, 5th Jul: A scheme to distribute monthly amount of Rs 200 each to persons above 70 years of Thangmeiband AC has been launched jointly by Thangmeiband MLA Kh Joykisan and Thangmeiband Kendra Development Organisation (TAKDO) on Sunday.
The said scheme will be applicable as the long the lockdown arising out of the COVID-19 pandemic persist in the state.
Joykisan started distributing the pension money to some select elderly persons of Thangmeiband at the community hall near Khoyathong Pukhri Achouba.
Speaking on the sidelines, the MLA noted that the lockdown imposed for containing COVID-19 pandemic has affected people of all walks of life in one way or another. Similar to the government taking up various initiatives to mitigate hardships of the people, relief committee of Thangmeiband AC along with volunteers of TAKDO have been distributing relief aid to the people such as distribution of food grains, pulses to all the families prior to launch of PMGSKAY scheme. Joykisan pointed out that the old age pension scheme for Thangmeiband has been launched subsequent to suggestions given by TAKDO executive committee and its well-wishers to help the aged people of the constituency by providing some money during the lockdown. The schemes will be for all irrespective of political inclinations or whether a senior citizen was former government employee or not, he added.
Explaining that the distribution to some select senior citizens was carried out for the day as lockdown prohibited mass gathering, the MLA informed that relief committee and TAKDO volunteers will distribute the pension amount at residence of all the aged people of Thangmeiband AC. The distribution for Ward no 1 will be done on July 6, for Ward no 2 on July 8, Ward no 3 on July 10 and for Ward no 25 on July 12, he continued.
Joykisan urged to contact TAKDO or Relief Committee if any eligible persons do not receive benefit of the scheme.
He recalled that a sum of Rs 10,000 has been extended to patients from the constituency who are taking treatment outside the state and further assured of helping critically ill persons of his constituency. Even though Thangmeiband AC is in urban area, there are many destitute families and as such special emphasis will be given to workers during these trying times, MLA Joykisan affirmed while adding extra food grains in addition to rice given by NFSA and PMGSKAY to people in distress.
