Covid cases continue to rise, tally reaches 1366
IMPHAL, 5th Jul: Covid-19 positive cases continued to rise in the state with 41 fresh cases (32 male and 9 female) detected in the last 24 hours taking the overall tally to 1366. At the same time, 22 patients were discharged after their test results turned negative which left the number of active and recovered cases at 677 and 689 respectively.
Meanwhile, the Covid-19 Common Control Room (CCR) has informed that any person having symptoms should undergo Covid-19 testing.
On the other hand, the TrueNat testing facility set up at district hospital Senapati has started functioning and it conducted 14 tests in the last 24 hours.
As per statements released by CCR, the 41 fresh cases included one from Churachandpur, Imphal East (1), Imphal West (6), Kakching (4), Kamjong (6), Kangpokpi (18), Noney (1), Tamenglong (2) and Ukhrul (2). All necessary measures for containment and contact tracing have been initiated.
The 22 cases discharged in the last 24 hours are from CCC Meitram (7), CCC Ukhrul (2), CCC Tamenglong (8), and JNIMS (5). The recovery rate now stands at 50.43 per cent. However, neither the CCR statement nor the status update from IDSP disclosed district wise information of the freshly discharged cases.
It further stated that common symptoms of Covid-19 are fever, sore throat, cough, body ache, and breathlessness. These symptoms are also found in Influenza Like Illnesses (ILI) and Severe Acute Respiratory Infections (SARI). Any person with these symptoms should undergo Covid testing. Healthcare providers, irrespective of the patient’s travel or contact history should facilitate testing by contacting the respective district surveillance officers, it added.
In the last 24 hours, 489 truckers and 538 commuters including 462 flight passengers were screened for Covid symptoms. The state has so far conducted 55,961 tests including 1,478 conducted in the last 24 hours. Up to now, the state has four ICMR authorised testing facilities – RIMS VRDL, JNIMS VRDL, STDC/IRL Imphal (TrueNat), and District Hospital Senapati (TrueNat). Currently, 7416 persons are under quarantine.
Despite the earlier statement of the government to free up RIMS hospital for non-Covid treatment, the state’s health department has not been able to achieve the target as nine fresh cases were admitted in the hospital on Sunday thereby increasing the number of patients undergoing treatment in the hospital to 22. Other patients are undergoing treatment at JNIMS (111), DH Bishnupur (6), CCC Meitram (283), TK Woodland Resort Ukhrul (51), DH Ukhrul (10), CCC Tamenglong (63), DH Churachandpur (1), NIELIT CCpur (7), CCC Senapati (40), PR English School Kakching (9), DH Thoubal (12), MTC Kangpokpi (2), CCC Kasom Khullen (1), CCC Kamjong (1), and district QCs (58).
