NC Club ensured their place in the quarterfinals of the Saheed Manoranjan Singh Football Tournament with a 3-2 win over SAI Utlou on Wednesday, while AIM comfortably beat KPSC Kakching in another action.
Riding on Ng Naocha’s brace, NC Club came from behind twice to stage a remarkable turnaround at the expense of SAI Utlou.
Both teams started the game cautiously but it was SAI who were ahead in their first period as Bisheshwor broke the deadlock via a penalty kick in the 30th minute to make sure his side took a 1-0 lead at the end of the first half.
NC Club bounced back almost immediately in the second half with a fine effort from Netrajit who restored parity for his team in the 52nd minute.
Bisheshwor reclaimed SAI’s lead when he netted his second goal in the 62nd minute.
But NC Club didn’t look the squad to give up as they went all out in the ensuing minutes and saw their opponents falter under pressure.
It was Ng Naocha who did the needful for the NC team with his magical moves inside the opposition box. He drew level in the 64th minute and went on to drill home the decider in the 71st minute and send his side straight to the quarterfinals.
AIM, on the other hand, pulled off a 4-2 victory over KPSC in an action-packed encounter.
N Sanjiv put KPSC ahead just eight minutes from kick-off only to be equalised in a span of one minute by Th Vandona.
After a 1-1 tie, AIM had their way as Md Fayazuddin overturned the scores in the 14th minute and Vandona was in action again for his second and team’s third goal in the 61st minute before Gogocha further extended their advantage and completed their collection. KPSC found their second in injury time through Ngammeiril but it was too little too late.
