Testing lab, Covid centres in some districts: Biswajit
IMPHAL, 13th Jun: Keeping in view increasing numbers of Covid-19 positive cases in the state, the consultative committee in its meeting held Saturday has resolved to set up testing facilities and Covid Care centres in some of the districts, said government spokesperson and committee member minister Th Biswajit.
Speaking to media persons after the meeting held at the CM’s secretariat on Saturday afternoon, Biswajit informed that the government is taking up every possible measure to prevent community transmission of the pandemic. After enhancing the testing capacity in the VRDL labs at RIMS and JNIMS, Saturday’s meeting agreed to set up more testing facilities and Covid Care centres in some districts without affecting normal functioning of the district hospitals, he said.
The meet also discussed the importance of prioritising the testing process based on risk assessment. Taking note of the bulk positive cases coming from specific quarantine centres, the meet discussed ways to prevent lateral transmission within the confines of quarantine centres. It also discussed the possibility of promulgating an ordinance to enforce compulsory wearing of face masks and penalising defaulters. Saturday’s meet also agreed to persist with the existing restrictions and SOPs pertaining to the lockdown, he informed.
Biswajit further appealed to all to cooperate with the volunteers and MLAs, who are playing major roles in running the community quarantine centres. Healthcare workers including the lab technicians are carrying out their duty with dedication despite the risks and the public should understand their importance and respect them, he said. He also appealed to all to raise any issue to the government instead of resorting to violent actions.
