CHRONICLE BUREAU
IMPHAL, 10th Jun: The Senjam Khunou & Senjam Chirang Joint Development Organisation said that Kuki Inpi Kangpokpi be held responsible for any untoward incident if the organisation went ahead with economic blockade amidst COVID-19 pandemic.
According to a statement of Senjam Khunou & Senjam Chirang Joint Development Organisation, the site for construction of National Sports University (NSU) never belonged to the Kukis as claimed by Kuki Inpi Kangpokpi and there is no need for discussion with Kukis on construction of the sports varsity. However, Kuki Inpi Kangpokpi (KIK) has been repeatedly creating issues over NSU construction without any basis, the organisation said and asked KIK to stop such activity.
The northern side of NSU belongs to 40 Senjam Khunou and the land was purchased by elders of Senjam Khunou and Senjam Chirang by paying Rs 13 to the then Manipur State Darbar in 1928 and the then government issued gazette notification subsequently, the statement said adding that KIK had been repeatedly informed about this fact with relevant land documents. The organisation also said that the land where NSU is to be constructed has no connection whatsoever with L Tanguam village as named by Kuki settlers of Haraothel and government should only consult villagers of Senjam Khunou and Senjam Chirang on construction of NSU. The organisation also alleged that KIK has been trying to create problem over NSU construction by imposing economic blockade after their repeated attempt to claim land ownership at law courts failed.
