Pregnant woman dies of malaria in Noney
IMPHAL, 9th Jun: With the death of a two-month pregnant woman of Taukoklong village at RIMS, Lamphelpat on Tuesday morning, the death toll due to malaria in Noney district has risen to three while another person has been confirmed to be infected with malaria in Churachandpur district on Tuesday.
However, a statement issued by State Malaria Officer Dr Thangpa Serto informed on Monday that malaria outbreak has claimed the lives of four in the state with Noney district accounting for the loss of three lives. Contrary to Dr Serto’s report sources in the district administration said only three persons have fallen prey to the vector borne disease till date.
According to our Noney correspondent, four persons including three from a same family (mother, son, daughter) have also been confirmed positive of Plasmodium Falciparum Malaria in the district so far. They have been shifted to to Nungba Community Health Centre (CHC) for necessary treatment.
An eight-member medical team from Imphal led by State Malaria Officer Dr Thangpa Serto arrived at Taukoklong village followed by blood testing and fogging with the help of village leaders.
In Churachandpur district, Malaria Officer Dr Nengkhanmang informed that one person suffering from Malaria has been confirmed at Lungthul village in Singhat assembly constituency thus putting total number of Malaria cases in Churachandpur to eight.
The district reported seven Malaria cases earlier, Dr Nengkhanmang said adding that one person died at Henglep recently due to malaria. Active surveillance, fogging, insecticide impregnation of bed nets, sanitisation, diagnostic test have been initiated in areas affected by Malaria, he added.
