Housewife found hanging, succumbs
STAFF REPORTER IMPHAL, 11th Dec:
A young housewife died late Sunday evening after she allegedly hanged herself inside her own room at Keishamthong Maning Leikai in Imphal police station.
The deceased woman has been identified as Sagolsem (Ningol) Longjam (Ongbi) Mrinalini (24) wife of Rabichandra.
Rabichandra’s family said that Mrinalini died on the way to Raj Medicity after she was found hanging inside her room using a cloth (Khudei) at about 10.30 pm Sunday.
Police sources informed that a team of Imphal police went to Raj Medicity, North AOC at about 11pm after learning about Mrinalini’s death and deposited the body at RIMS mortuary for post mortem.
A team of Imphal police station along with members of Mrinalini’s parental family and her husband’s family jointly inspected the room where the woman was reportedly found hanging early Monday morning. The police team found a piece of paper (suicide note) written by Mrinalini inside the room.
Even though post mortem examination of Mrinalini’s corpse was conducted Monday in the presence of a magistrate, representatives of both the families with video recording, the body is being kept at RIMS morgue due to differences between the two families.
Soon after the post mortem examination ended, Mrinalini’s parental family members accused Rabichandra’s family of killing her after torture and demanded legal action. As the situation got worsened, police brought Rabichandra’s mother from the morgue using a vehicle but Mrinalini’s parental family members present at the morgue complex pelted stones towards the vehicle.
Parental family members told media persons that Mrinalini’s mother-in-law began torturing her when her daughter was barely three months old, thus forcing her to return to her maternal home. After staying at her maternal home for a long time, Mrinalini went back after Rabichandra threatened to commit suicide if she did not return, they said and alleged that Mrinalini was killed after being tortured by her in-laws. Mrinalini was told repeatedly to return to her parental home but she stayed at the house of the in-laws, they said, and demanded befitting action against Rabichandra’s family.
Meanwhile, police have started questioning family members of Rabichandra after registering a case at Imphal police station.
