Nurse among 26 new positive cases detected in state

IMPHAL, 4th Jun: A nurse on duty at Churachandpur district hospital and a three-year old girl were tested positive as the state registered highest single day spike with 26 fresh cases of Covid-19 detected in the last 24 hour and took the state’s tally to 134 with 96 active cases.
The 40-year old nurse posted in the isolation ward of Churachandpur District Hospital is the first case of local transmission in the state though it is within the confines of the healthcare facility. Her test result came positive along with 12 other positive results at JNIMS VRDL on late Wednesday night. She has been on duty at the isolation ward since the beginning. Source said that she recently returned to duty after a mandatory quarantine for nurses on duty at GBC Girls Hostel. Consequently, CCpur district administration has declared GBC Girls’ Hostel and Selmat Christian Higher Secondary School as containment zone.
Chief Medical Officer Dr VC Pao lauded her sense of duty and dedication without fearing the pandemic, and wished her speedy recovery.
According to our Churachandpur correspondent, the nurse as well as a Chennai returnee tested positive for COVID-19 when results of their samples returned late Wednesday night.
The frontline COVID-19 warrior who tested positive hails from Bungmual village, Churachandpur and she attended to patients at 10-bedded Isolation Ward for COVID-19 patients at Churachandpur district hospital recently. The second person aged around 41 years hails from L Phaimol village and he returned from Chennai recently.
Confirming the development, CMO Churachandpur Dr VC Pau said that the nurse who tested positive is a real frontline warrior and she risked her life by performing duties to the satisfaction of all patients. Her commitment to serve patients and attention to duties in-spite of risking her life is admirable, the CMO said adding that the nurse’s dedication and faithfulness to work at these crisis hours should be honoured by all.
While maintaining that all has to emulate examplary commitment of the nurse to serve COVID-19 patients, the CMO said many doctors may also be affected with COVID-19 yet the commitment shown by nurse by attending duties despite risk was admirable.
Hospital sources said the nurse has shown an indomitable spirit to fight back her affliction and was assigned to look after the isolation ward since the inception of the ward.
As of June 4 evening, Churachandpur district has 24 positive cases with 16 recovered and seven active cases. Out of 2578 persons tested for COVID-19 so far, results of 1522 have come out with 1499 returning negative. A total of 1,001 returnees have been quarantined.
On the other-hand, separate statements issued by the government’s Covid-19 Common Control Room confirmed detection of 13 new positive cases late Wednesday night while three more positive cases were detected at JNIMS VRDL on Thursday.
One Chennai returnee, one Pune returnee and one staff nurse Churachandpur district hospital with no travel history were confirmed positive. One Delhi returnee from Imphal East; three Pune returnees from Tengnoupal; one Delhi returnee from Chandel, one Mumbai returnee from Bishnupur, one Delhi returnee from Tamenglong; and six Mumbai returnees from Kangpokpi district including a three-year old girl were also confirmed positive. At present, the active number of positive cases is 83 and number of discharged person is 38.
Meanwhile, a late source said that 10 more samples were tested positive at RIMS VRDL. However, the government authority has not filed any detailed information till the time of filing this report. On the other hand, status update shared by IDSP Imphal informed that 6323 persons are in institutional quarantine facilities and 11,958 in community quarantine centres now. On Thursday, 546 truckers and 660 commuters were screened at the entry point at Mao and Jiribam; and 598 drivers and handymen at the dedicated screening centres at ISBT and YAS Complex, Imphal. On Thursday, RIMS VRDL conducted 454 tests and JNIMS VRDL conducted 613 tests which sum up to 1067 tests. So far, 13,531 samples have been tested. The status update shared by IDSP is from 6.30 pm of Wednesday to 6.30 pm of Thursday.
