Rajya Sabha election on June 19

IMPHAL, 1st Jun: The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced that elections to 18 Rajya Sabha seats including one for Manipur would be conducted on June 19. Titular king Sanajaoba Leishemba of BJP and MPCC vice-president T Mangibabu of INC are contesting for the lone Rajya Sabha seat for Manipur. The election was scheduled to be held on March 26 but ECI deffered the same due to outbreak of COVID-19. The election would be held for four each Rajya Sabha seats for Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh, three each seats for Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, two seats for Jharkhand and one each seat for Manipur and Meghalaya. As per an ECI notification issued Monday, polling will begin from 9am and end at 4pm on June 19 and counting of votes will begin from 5pm the same day. All election processes will complete by June 22, the ECI said. The ECI also deputed chief electoral officers of the states concerned as election observers.
