11 more test positive, 50 active cases in state

IMPHAL, 28th May: After results of 11 more people returned positive of the virus in the past 24 hours from RIMS and JNIMS, the total number of COVID-19 cases in the state reached 55.
However, active cases stand at 50 as of late Thursday as five patients have recovered and sent to their respective homes.
Sharing the information in a statement, additional director and spokesperson of state health department Dr Khoirom Shaseekumar said results of seven people returned positive of COVID-19 from RIMS hospital at 4pm Thursday and results of four more people came out positive from JNIMS hospital. Among them, seven are female and two males, Shaseekumar said, adding all seven have been shifted to the COVID-19 care facilities at RIMS and JNIMS where their conditions are stated to be stable.
Significantly, all the seven positive cases detected at RIMS are persons who returned to the state by in different flights on Wednesday and five of them hail from Thoubal district and one each from Imphal West and Kakching districts. Those who returned positive from JNIMS Thursday belong to Churachandpur and Tengnoupal districts, two each.
Shaseekumar further informed that COVID-19 patient from Imphal East district who returned from Mumbai after treatment (cancer) of his father and had been undergoing treatment at JNIMS tested negative on Wednesday and subsequently discharged on Thursday after being given necessary instructions. With him, five patients have so far recovered and discharged.
Meanwhile, a report shared by state IDSP surveillance officer Dr Tomcha Khuman said that a total of 14,196 returnees are currently staying at quarantine centres opened by state government to contain COVID-19 pandemic. Among them, 3,709 are at institutional quarantine centres and 10,489 at community quarantine centres opened across the state.
The report also said that 564 drivers and handymen and 12 passengers were screened at Mao gate Thursday another 233 drivers and handymen and 15 passengers at Jiribam gate. A total of 173 people who returned by air were screened at Imphal airport Thursday, it said adding that 497 drivers and handymen were also screened at ISBT Khuman Lampak. Apart from this, a total of 76 tanker drivers were screened at YAS complex at Khuman Lampak and 20 bullet drivers at Sekmai LPG Bottling plant.
The report also said that results of 303 samples from VRDL laboratory of RIMS and 621 samples from JNIMS returned Thursday but 11 of them came out positive. COVID-19 control room attended to 122 phone calls Thursday, the report concluded.
