School staffers assigned Covid duties
IMPHAL, 21st May: With the continuous inflow of native returnees from various parts of the country and the sudden upsurge of Covid-19 positive cases in the state, the government has started converting the schools in various districts as pool quarantine centres and also assigned teaching and non-teaching staff of the school concerned by making them part of the managing committee of the said centres.
A memorandum issued by Bishnupur district Deputy Commissioner Neeta Arambam has ordered for setting up Shining Star Academy, Toubul and St Xavier School, Moirang as pool quarantine centres for the district. The two schools which were previously used as community quarantine centre have been converted into pool quarantine centre for the district as per the cabinet decision taken on Wednesday.
Returnees of Bishnupur district who arrived on Thursday from Hyderabad will be kept in Shining Star Academy, Toubul. The pool quarantine centre would be managed by the managing committee formed by teaching and non-teaching staff of the school under the supervision of the principal. Similarly, native returnees of Bishnupur who will arrive on Friday from Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh would be kept at St Xavier School, Moirang.
The overall in charge for the two pool quarantine centres for Bishnupur district would be SDOs of Nambol and Moirang, the order informed.
Evacuation of the stranded natives has been undertaken by the state government in a phase-wise manner. Special trains for evacuation of the natives have already been scheduled till May 25.
After arrival of the returnees scheduled till May 25, the state government in its cabinet meeting decided to halt the evacuation process for some time or till the testing of all returnees in quarantine centres have been completed.
As the inflow of the native returnees would be massive, the state government has taken the decision to set up pool quarantine centre in various schools of the respective district so as to cope with the unavailability of space for the returnees in institutional and community quarantine centres. Teaching and non-teaching staff of the school might be added in the management committee for the pool quarantine centres to be set up in schools of various district so that they could be involved to helping in management of the pool quarantine centres.
