Ukhrul gears up for swab collection of quarantined persons

UKHRUL, 19th May: In tune with the state government's measures to stem any possible spread of Covid-19 in the state, Ukhrul district health authority is gearing up for swab collection of hundreds of evacuees who are currently quarantined across the district.
Talking to The People's Chronicle on Tuesday evening over the phone, an official of Ukhrul District Medical Control Room for Covid-19 informed that necessary process for collection of swab specimens from all the inmates of institutional quarantine and community quarantine centres has started and the collection process is likely to commence within a few days' time.
"Doctors, nurses and lab technicians at each of the Primary Health Centres in respective Assembly Constituencies have been provided with the requisite training for the exercise," the official said, adding that the collection will begin once the testing kits and other necessary equipment’s are received by the respective PHCs.
According to the district control room which was constituted two days back, the current accumulated number of evacuees at different institutional and community quarantine facilities in the three assembly constituencies of Ukhrul, Phungyar and Chingai is 468.
It is learnt that many of the returnees have been despatched to different community quarantine centres set up by their respective villages, while many have been accommodated in quarantine centres at sub-divisional block headquarters. Out of 468 evacuees, majority are still undergoing quarantine at Pettigrew College, JNV Lambui and Patkai Christian Academy, while the rest are housed at different Sub-Divisional centres like Lungchong Maiphai, Jessami, Kamjong and Kasom Khullen.
Meanwhile, it is learnt that a total of 76 inmates at Pettigrew College quarantine have been tested and 19 have turned out negative so far, while report of 57 tests is being awaited.
