CHRONICLE BUREAU IMPHAL, 8TH DEC: Udit Gogoi and Bhakti Parwani claimed the U-16 boys and girls’ singles titles of the MATA-AITA Super Series as the tennis competition came to a close on Friday at Officers’ Club, Lamphelpat.
Assam’s Udit Gogoi faced little resistance against Ajay Singh of Chandigarh in their summit clash of the boys’ singles event. The Assamese player made short work of his opponent with a straight sets 6-2, 6-2 triumph to lay his hands on the winner’s trophy.
En route to the final, Udit outplayed Indrabalan 6-4, 6-4 in their semifinal clash.
Gujarat’s Bhakti Parwani, on the other hand, had an easier game against Adkar Yaishnati of Maharashtra by producing a 6-1, 6-1 rout of her title opponent to claim the girls’ singles crown.
The tournament drew a total of 41 players from Gujarat (3), Delhi (4), Odisha (1), Assam (8), West Bengal (3), Manipur (10), Karnataka (4), Maharashtra (4), AP (1), Telengana (1), Tamil Nadu (1) and Chandigarh (1).
