Traffic jam amid lockdown
IMPHAL, 14th May: Huge surge in vehicular movement was seen on Thursday in areas within the city limits causing traffic jam following the partial relaxation of the lockdown and curfew imposed by the Government for containing Covid-19.
Moreover, commuters failed to adhere to Government guidelines of social distancing especially while descending to park vehicles.
The threat being posed by Covid-19 pandemic seem to have been watered down in public consciousness despite strict action being taken up by state police such as detaining lockdown violators on a daily basis and imposing huge fine as increasing number of vehicles were seen on the roads and streets especially in Imphal area. There were apparent signs of traffic jams in several intersection points including Keishampat, Kwakeithel, Nityaipat Chuthek, Kangla Mamang, PWD Crossing, North AOC, Sangakpham, Uripok and Singjamei. Furthermore, several vehicles including two-wheelers and four-wheelers were seen parked closely in major points of the city namely Kanglapat area, forgetting strict Government guidelines to maintain social distancing whenever outside. Even passenger autos were seen operating in some areas. It may be noted here that Khwairamband Keithel has been remaining shut as part of the measures taken up by the State Government for containing the pandemic and entry to the market has been restricted to prevent any possible spread of the contagious Covid-19. The state police are continuously taking up strict security measures such as detaining lockdown violators and individuals failing to abide Government guidelin
