CM Biren orders no parking at Paona, Thangal Keithel

IMPHAL, 10th May: Chief minister N Biren Singh on Sunday inspected the ongoing repair work at Ima Keithel Number 1. During the inspection, the Chief Minister ordered the accompanying Imphal Municipal Corporation officials not to allow parking of vehicles along the road stretches of Paona Keithel, Thangal Keithel and from Keishampat to Khoyathong.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines, CM N Biren stated that taking the opportunity of the lockdown, MAHUD and IMC have taken up repair work of Ima Keithel and cleaning up of surrounding drainages so as to beautify and keep them neat and clean as they are the major landmarks of the state.
Talking about the traffic congestion in Thangal Keithel, Paona Keithel, Khwairamband area and Keishampat to Khoyathong road stretch, the CM urged the residents, shop owners, shopkeepers in these areas to refrain from parking their vehicles on the roadside.
He maintained that they should be dropped and picked up by drivers or family members to their respective shops as no permanent parking will be allowed in these areas. For residents of Thangal and Paona Keithel who do not have parking spaces, IMC will make arrangements for parking their vehicles in the parking lots allotted over the slab-covered Naga Nullah. He informed that the encroachers and illegal shops constructed over Naga Nullah have been evicted by IMC and police.
Recognising the patience, strength and unconditional love and support of mother, Biren also conveyed his warm greetings to all the mothers of the state for their indomitable spirit on the occasion of Mother’s Day. He opined that we should seek blessings and pay rich tribute to all our mothers on such special day.
During the inspection, the chief minister was accompanied by Yaiskul MLA Th Satyabrata, principal secretary (MAHUD) Rakesh Ranjan, municipal commissioner and officials of Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC).
Taking the advantage of the current nationwide lockdown, the repair work is being taken up at the historic Ima Keithel by IMC since April 22.
