Govt urged to ‘rein in’ private schools

IMPHAL, 5th May: Raising concern over the issue of tuition fees for students, salaries for teaching & non-teaching staff as well as transport service providers of private schools due to the nationwide lockdown over COVID-19; AIMS, ANSAM and DESAM have urged the education minister to come up with a directive to address the issue. In a joint statement, the three student bodies said that they support the demand from different sections against levying tuition fees as well as transport fees from students for the lockdown period. At the same time, teaching and non-teaching staff of private schools and especially transport service providers are also facing the lockdown impact. Considering their hardships, the government must come up with a concrete policy to provide some relief to them. The statement further urged the education minister to formulate a policy which is acceptable to all.
