Native returnees put under institutional quarantine
IMPHAL, 2nd May: As the 84 state natives brought from Manipur Bhavan, Guwahati have reached Imphal, they have been put under institutional quarantine at Imphal Valley Academy, Ghari.
The state government in its first step of evacuating the stranded state natives from different parts of the country sent four buses on April 29 to bring back 84 Manipuris staying at Manipur Bhavan in Assam. The four buses arrived here on Saturday.
Earlier, they were screened at Mao gate by health officials and provided breakfast in Senapati district HQs before arriving at ISBT complex. After another round of screening, they were taken to Imphal Valley Academy for 14 days of compulsory institutional quarantine.
Health minister L Jayantakumar, who received the individuals at the quarantine facility, said that the batch is the first step towards evacuating the stranded state natives. The government will chalk out a strategic plan to evacuate others from different parts of the country, he added.
As per guideline, they will be put under institutional quarantine for 14 days to prevent any possible spread of COVID-19. Health officials with the assistance of police department are taking up strict measures to maintain social distancing in the facility, he said. He also appealed to all those staying under home quarantine to strictly follow the guidelines.
Meanwhile, a group of 24 Manipuri students stranded in Kota, Rajasthan have drawn attention of the state government for evacuating them while expressing concern over the rising number of COVID-19 positive cases in Kota area.
According to a report of State Surveillance Officer IDSP Manipur Dr L Tomcha Khuman, around 164 people are staying in different quarantine centres established in various places by the government for containing spread of COVID-19 pandemic.
Dr Tomcha informed that 790 truck drivers and handymen and 113 passengers coming to the state were screened at Mao gate and 162 people were screened at Jiribam. Out of the total truck drivers coming towards Imphal, 282 of them were again screened at ISBT; 50 at YAS Complex Khuman Lampak and 7 at Sekmai Gas bottling plant.
Around 164 people are staying in the designated government Quarantine centres as of now. The results of all the tests done on Saturday for COVID-19 turned out negative. Six people got tested at RIMS and one got tested at JNIMS, the report added. In related development, 36 sites for setting up qaurantine centres in 6 Assembly Constituencies of Bishnupur district have been identified for keeping the stranded people from Bishnupur district after they are evacuated from different parts of the country.
All evacuated state natives have to be kept in an institutional quarantine centre for 14 days so as to prevent any possible chance of spreading COVID-19.
To discuss issues about setting up quarantine centres, a meeting presided over by Oinam MLA L Radhakishor was conducted on Saturday along with 6 MLAs of Bishnupur district, DC Bishnupur Neeta Arambam, Bishnupur Zilla Parishad Adhyaksha Dr Romabai Lairenjam, SDOs of Nambol, Bishnupur and Moirang, Chairpersons of Municipal Councils and Pradhans at the conference hall of DC office, Bishnupur.
After a detailed discussion, SK Women's College, L Sanoi College, Nambol Higher Secondary School, Nambol Lairen Girls High School and Leimapokpam Public High School have been identified as Quarantine centres in respect of Nambol AC while Thambal Marik College, Comprehensive School, Keinou High School, Ngaikhong khullen High School, Ibotombi Institute for Teacher Education and Toubul High School have been identified for Oinam AC.
For Bishnupur AC, C.I. College, Mangolnganbi College, Loyola School, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya and Old Secretariat Complex have been identified as the designated quarantine centres while Moirang College, LCM High School, St. Xavier School, Mukta High School, Chingu Thangjing Guest House, Kwakta High School, Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya, Hotel Elegant and Hotel Lake View for Moirang AC.
Moreover, Thanga High School, Loyalam High School, Children Model Academy, Ideal English School and Thanga Wangma Junior High School have been identified for establishing quarantine centres in respect of Thanga AC, while Kumbi College, New Model High School, Purana Masjid Borayangbi, Residential School and Madrasa Jia Uloom Borayangbi in respect of Kumbi AC.
