BJP leader demands CBI probe into rice distribution
IMPHAL, 29th Apr: Alleging improper distribution of rice under PMGKAY and NFSA schemes during COVID-19 lockdown in Thangmeiband assembly constituency, BJP Manipur Pradesh vice-president Jyotin Waikhom has demanded a CBI inquiry into the matter.
In a statement made available to media houses on Wednesday, Jyotin Waikhom said that a proposal from the side of BJP was made sometimes back for handing over the responsibility of distributing rice under PMGKAY and NFSA to Thangmeiband United Club, the apex body of all clubs in the constituency. NFSA rice for the month of April, 2020 was made available to the people after Manipur government produced entire cost and PMGKAY rice for the months of April, May and June started distribution accordingly.
According to Jyotin Waikhom, a total of 1,600 quintal of rice under PMGKAY scheme was allocated for Thangmeiband assembly constituency and this could cover 32,000 population of the constituency. The local MLA had even declared that every individual of the constituency will be provided 5kg of rice each and additional rice requirement, if any, will be procured from OMSS with fund from MLA Local Area Development Fund. State chief secretary had issued an order recently directing distribution of rice PMGKAY scheme through respective DCs of every constituency as per India government instruction and BJP welcomed the order, Jyotin said. There are many families who are yet to get NFSA card in Thangmeiband AC, he said, adding that rice for the month of April was released on March 24 and allocation for Thangmeiband was lifted and started distribution through local clubs and agents from April 1. However, rice for the month of March did not reach the beneficiaries, he said, and demanded clarification from the MLA and nominee on when the rice for the month started distribution.
PMGKAY rice for Thangmeiband AC was distributed for five days from April 20 but some booths under Ward No. 25 are yet to get the entitled rice, he said, adding that people are entitled to get both PMGKAY and NFSA rice. He also urged government to take steps to ensure that PMGKAY rice reach every family of Thangmeiband AC including those who are yet to get the same and also the non-locals residing within the jurisdication of the constituency. Drawing attention of the chief minister in this regard, Jyotin demanded a proper inquiry against wrong doers.
