Dr Dhabali listed for Japanese honour; credits team
IMPHAL, 29th Apr: Dr Thangjam Dhabali has been named as one of the 114 foreign recipients (three from India) for the prestigious ‘Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays’ to be presented by the Japanese Government for the 2020 Spring Decoration.
The Embassy of Japan in India made the announcement in a statement, explaining that the decoration is to be conferred in acknowledgment of the recipient’s prolonged efforts and role in maintaining good understanding and relationship between Japan and India.
Speaking to The People’s Chronicle in this regard, Dr Dhabali, who is also the founder president of Manipur Tourism Forum (MTF), recalled that the Forum in association with the 2nd World War Imphal Campaign Foundation had been commemorating the Battle of Imphal since his time as the president. In 2014, which was also the 70th Anniversary of the Battle of Imphal, several officials of the Embassy of Japan attended the observance along with many Japanese citizens. He further recalled that in June 2019 Sasakawa Peace Foundation and Nippon Foundation, Japan through the Japanese Embassy sponsored the construction of Imphal Peace Museum in the state, while the Manipur Government provided the site for the same. Both the Foundation and the Japanese Embassy had expressed joy on the successful completion of the project, he added.
Stating that the prestigious decoration is to be conferred to him in acknowledgment of the efforts made to deepen the ties between Japan and India, particularly with Manipur, Dr Dhabali credited his team, MTF and 2nd World War Imphal Campaign Foundation for the decoration.
