ESU stroll past Hans in IWL qualifiers

CHRONICLE BUREAU IMPHAL, 4th Dec: Manipur’s trio of Haobam Bushan, Rahul Pamei and Sagolsem Bhicky all advanced in the opening day of the MATA-AITA Super Series 2017 which got underway at Officers’ Club, Lamphelpat.

Bushan came from a first-set down to secure a 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 win over Kumar Harsha in their boys’ singles match.

Raul Pamei, on the other hand, got off to a flying start with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Ashwajit.

Also, Bhicky was another state player who triumphed on Day 1 after cruising past Vaz Leston 6-0, 6-0.

Yumnam Agu, meanwhile, was the first casualty from Manipur in the girls' singles event on the first day, after she lost to Adkar Vaishnavi.

The tennis tournament drew a total of 50 players, including 20 girls, from Chandigardh, Delhi, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Telengana, West Bengal, Gujarat, Assam and Manipur.
