Protest staged over unequal rice distribution
IMPHAL, 23rd Apr: Some families in Top Khongnangkhong area of Khurai assembly constituency staged protest on Thursday alleging that they were provided only 2 kg of rice per head instead of the promised 5 kg.
Members of the families submitted a complaint to the president of The Public Club before staging the protest while keeping their share of rice in front of them.
Soon a police team went there and made the protesters to stay put at the local ground while maintaining social distancing. Later, an official team from the office of DC Imphal East arrived and heard their complaint.
According to the protesters, they were provided only 2 kg of rice per head while NFSA beneficiaries were provided 5 kg per head. They were informed that the 2 kg rice was provided as per order from the DC. Besides, several government employees were denied rice share even though the government’s policy is to provide 5 kg of rice to each individual.
Meanwhile, club members maintained that the way they were distributing rice is not right and urged the government to find out who is responsible, either the DC or the MLA or the FPS agents.
