IMA hails ordinance

IMPHAL, 23rd Apr: Indian Medical Association, Manipur State Branch (IMA-MSB) has conveyed gratitude to the Union government for paying heed to the call of IMA and promulgating an ordinance that will make violence and harassment against healthcare workers engaged in combating Covid-19 a non- bailable offence with fine. In a release, IMA-MSB said IMA has been demanding a central ordinance to protect doctors, nurses, health care workers and hospitals/clinics from violence and destruction of property for a long time. Manipur has also witnessed such unwanted incidents of violence against doctors, health care workers, destruction of hospital/ clinical infrastructure time and again.
“We take this opportunity to appeal to the public to shun violence against health care workers in future so that we all can exist in a congenial atmosphere,” it said.
The release further urged the Central government to convert the ordinance a permanent law and not just for the pandemic.
