Smuggled WIN cigarettes seized

MOREH, 22nd Apr: Although the government has sealed the Indo-Myanmar border as a preventive measure against spread of pandemic Coronavirus, smuggling of WIN cigarette through the international border area continues.
On Wednesday at about 1 am, a team of Moreh Police commando led by OC Ksh Prakash and Jamadar Bishwanath seized 64,961 packages of WIN cigarettes from a place near Moreh College. The cigarettes had been smuggled through the porous border area and the estimated cost of the seizure is said to be worth Rs 32 lakh in international market.
Meanwhile, a team of Tengnoupal Police Station led by OC John Lamkang and SI Subash seized 44,000 packages of WIN cigarettes from an area which is about half a kilometre from Narun village, Tengnoupal district at about 1 pm on the same day. The seized item which is approximately worth around Rs 22 lakh in international market has been kept under the custody of Tengnoupal Police Station.
All the seized items were produced before media by the police in the presence of Tengnoupal SP Th Vikramjit, additional SP L&O Semboi Gangte, additional SP Ops Th Krishnatombi, additional SP Ops Moirangthem Amit and other police officers.
It is estimated that the seized items are worth Rs 1.8 lakh in local market and Rs 54 lakh in international market in total.
