Govt assures decision on ILPS bill by Dec 8: JCILPS
STAFF REPORTER IMPHAL, 4th Dec:
Subsequent to the submission of a memorandum to the government by JCILPS demanding a bill to protect the indigenous people of Manipur, chief minister N Biren has given his assurance to the JCILPS for declaring the decision of the government on the issue by December 8.
Informing this to media persons at its office here on Monday, JCILPS convener Arjun Telheiba said that a seven-member team of JCILPS met the CM and submitted a memorandum containing the resolutions taken during the December 1 public meeting on Inner Line Permit System movement.
During the meeting, chief minister Biren assured the JCILPS delegation that a decision of the state government over the demand would be made known by December 8. However, the CM sought some more time since there are other burning issues like Framework Agreement, which the government is trying to resolve first. Biren further confided to the team that the government is resolute for resolving the ILPS issue at the earliest and is committed to safeguarding the indigenous communities of the state, Telheiba conveyed.
Welcoming the assurance, the JCILPS team urged the CM to discuss with stakeholders and consensus of all communities before coming up with a bill for safeguarding the indigenous people of the state and their rights, Arjun Telheiba said.
He further said that the team also informed the CM of launching a mass public movement if the government fails to declare its definitive stand over the issue by December 8.
